A Full Tank and a Puzzling Pump: An American Road Trip Anecdote

“Ready/Reddy” the red Jeep ... yesterday at a gas station somewhere in the USA. I walked in to prepay fuel ... asked for $40... went out and started pumping.... at $17 the pump stopped working... worker ran out, told me to use next pump.... and no other pump would work... as the only car at the pumps workers were really concerned the pumps had broken down.... staff puzzles, engineer phone calls, signs brought out to sticker pumps “technical fault”.., etc... our half hour delay .... to then discover our petrol tank was full .... and we had driven welll over 200 miles on just $17 ? .... oops
