In 2003 when working for Ultralab I met Hidayah (it was common for people from all over the world to fly to the UK to spend time working in the lab environment as an experience). Hidayah worked for the Ministry of Education Singapore, and while with us I took her to BBC TV Centre in London (where we had multiple projects running) and to schools around the region to show various ‘beacon schools’ and how they work (and some ‘not so beacon schools’ (for measure)). Hidayah and I have stayed in touch as we’ve moved on in our careers, and she is now a respected author and owns a publishing house which creates brilliant educational resources. It’s always nice to get a book pack from Hidayah, and right now one of the books in particular is awesome, and really hits home.
