Shared some pics from Ahmedabad yesterday… and these are from a trip to Hyderabad back in 2018. The visit was part of a wider project, and one part of that involved consulting on a pilot drone concept designed to help very remote villages get better access to digital medical information and supplies. Some of these villages are incredibly isolated… miles from the nearest hospital or doctor, with no internet access, very little exposure to medical infrastructure, and lower-than-average life expectancy as a result. Access to even the most basic health information can be life-changing. The original idea on the table was to use drones to fly out to these hard-to-reach places, hover overhead, connect to a satellite, and create a short-lived Wi-Fi hotspot. During that short hover window, locals could upload or download essential medical data… prescriptions, vaccination updates, test results, eye prescriptions, referrals, and so on. It was a smart use of tech, but the limitations were clear… the drone could only stay in range for a short time, and the opportunity to actually connect was narrow. People had to know and wait for the drone to appear… and hope they were ready when it did. When …
