We’re all off sick at the moment… no school for the kids, whatever we’ve got is nasty, and has been for the last couple of weeks… but somehow Amelia can still get detention for not doing her homework while she’s ill. And she’s not allowed to ask ChatGPT for help. But nowhere does it say I can’t. So after she tried, got stuck, tried again, got upset, and tried again… she asked me. Me. The one who got a E in Maths… twice… before finally scraping a C on the third attempt on an easier programme. (The same school system that thought teaching a dyslexic kid French when he struggled with English was a great idea.) Bonjour, cava? Parlez-vous anglais? So yes … she asked me. And of course … immediately went to ChatGPT, took a photo of her homework, and got it to explain the steps so I could explain them to her … you know, just in case she ever wants to become a maths teacher, which is the only other time in life she’ll ever see this stuff again. Because let’s be honest: Most of the maths we force kids to learn is only useful if you end up teaching… that same maths. I get that ultimately it’s brain development and problem-solving skills… But it’s also infuriating to use a school learning syst…
