Chelmsford Community Radio Station Saved from Closure

For Immediate Release Monday 20 April 2020 Chelmsford Community Radio, the local FM based community radio broadcaster for Chelmsford, has been saved from closure by supporters responding to an online Crowdfunding campaign. The station which has broadcast continuously from Moulsham Mill since 2013 was funded almost entirely by revenue generated by the Community Coffee Shop ‘Coffee at the Mill’ adjoining the studios. When the Government announced closure of non essential businesses, Coffee at the Mill closed too, resulting in the immediate loss of the station’s core income stream. The station is run entirely by unpaid members (with the exception of two part time staff who operate the coffee shop counter). A crowdfunding campaign was launched on 21 March specifically to cover the operational costs of the radio studios and music and broadcast licencing; the target of £10,000 has now been hit. Supporters, including individuals and companies, recognise the value of the radio station and have donated amounts between £2 and £5,000.
