The real impact of leaving the EU (see image — typical for our little learning company). This is becoming all too common for us when tendering for work. We used to be able to tender for work across the whole of Europe in our eLearning company. I didn’t vote to leave. I don’t want a celebration 50p coin or a blue passport. I want to be able to bid for work and bring money into the country — yes, it really did come our way. Brexit didn’t arrive as a single dramatic cut. It arrived as paperwork, eligibility walls, and quiet doors closing on opportunities that used to be open. For a small UK company that designed and delivered learning systems, European tenders weren’t abstract politics — they were real contracts, real teams kept busy, and real revenue that came home. When you’re shut out of markets you used to serve well, “sovereignty” doesn’t pay the invoices. Competitiveness does. Open bidding did. Watching good UK capability get boxed into a smaller pitch feels wasteful — for us, and for the public organisations who lost a wider field of suppliers. I’m not interested in nostalgia merch.
